In plain English

The app has no account. To identify a plant, your photo (and, if you allow it, your approximate location) is sent to our server and on to an AI provider. We don't keep your photos, we don't sell data and there are no ads. Your history, collection and map stay on your phone.

Who is responsible

AI Plant Identifier Flower App ("the app") and this website are published by Damien Nathanael Elledge, an independent developer, who is the data controller for the processing described here. Contact: support@aiplantidentifier.com.

What leaves your iPhone

The app has no account and no sign-in. It sends data only when you use a feature that needs the AI:

  • The photo you take or choose, resized, so the AI can identify the plant or answer a Diagnose, Toxicology, Care Guide, Light or Water Calculator request.
  • Your approximate location and place name, only if you allow location access or the library photo you choose carries a location, to give the AI regional context.
  • The text of your chat messages to the AI plant expert and your follow-up questions.
  • A random install identifier and a device identifier, used to protect the service from abuse (rate limits) and, if purchases are offered, to manage them. They are not linked to your name or email.

Who processes it

Requests go to our server, which runs on Cloudflare, and on to Google (Gemini) to produce the answer. Some requests can be answered by OpenAI instead when Google's service fails. RevenueCat manages in-app purchases if they are offered. These providers process the data on our behalf and may process it outside the European Union under the safeguards they offer, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

What we keep

Our server does not store your photos or messages. It keeps a usage counter per device to apply rate limits. Your identification history, your collection, your plant map and your chats are stored on your iPhone, not on our servers, and are deleted when you delete them in the app or remove the app.

Why we process it

We process your photo, location and messages to provide the feature you asked for (performance of a contract), and the identifiers to keep the service secure and available (legitimate interest). Location is used only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no ads. Our hosting provider records technical server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to deliver and protect the site.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of personal data we hold, object to processing, or ask for its portability, by writing to support@aiplantidentifier.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority, such as the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali in Italy, your state or federal data protection authority in Germany, or the CNIL in France.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
